NAACP


            
             The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is a nation-wide group of people whose objectives are to ensure the political educational, social, and economic equality of Blacks. This group researches and checks large corperation's actions toward immigrants and colored people. Its also monitors the payroll, and ladder statis of the colored people to make sure that they are being treated fairly and given the money and promotions they deserve. (some of these organisations are Mircosoft, John Deer, The Home Depot and most U.S. McDonalds). From monitoring the labor ethics to making sure both white people and colored people get an equal education at any age, the NAACP is the "watchdog- (NAACP.com, pg. 5) over all. .
             To begin, the NAACP was founded by a group of intelligent people: Ida Wells-Barnett, W.E.B. DuBois, Henry Moscowitz, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Garrison Villiard, and Williams English Walling. It was formed back in 1909 in New York. On February 12, over the signatures of 60 persons, the "Call" was issued for a meeting on the concept of creating an organization that would be an aggressive watchdog of Negro liberties. This "Call- came on the 100th anniversary of Lincoln's birthday. The "Call- is a doctrine that was sent out to hundreds of people and requested their presence at a meeting on the concept of beginning a group that watched over the rights of colored people. Over the years the NAACP grew and it now has over 2,200 branches covering all 50 states. Its headquarters is in Baltimore, Maryland, and its total membership exceeds 500,000 people. The man in charge of this huge group is Kweisi Mfume, who is also chief executive officer and official spokesman. The Chairman of the Board for the association is a man named Julian Bond. .
             The NAACP is responsible for such laws like the anti-lynching law in 1919; Harry Truman's Executive Order prohibiting racial discrimination and segregation in US Armies; The Fair Employment Practice Committee that ban racial discrimination in industries opening the doors for many colored jobs.
