Tobacco Kills (and the Government Doesn't Care)

It is clear that the $50 million advertising blitz by Big Tobacco hijacked this legislation and took the momentum away from the public health of the American people and swung it toward Big Money and Big Tobacco. It is very unfortunate that the Senate has been unable to follow Minnesota's lead and enact tough, comprehensive anti-tobacco policy. This was an important piece of legislation and it should have been passed." Is this the kind of government that someone would want running a country? America is a country where they want to make as much money as possible, but do not care whom they hurt or kill just to get it. They spend billions of dollars trying to keep American citizens healthy and fighting the war against drugs, but tobacco is still legal. If America wants to earn a lot of money, then why don't they just open the illegal business of marijuana, crack, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, etc? To me that just doesn't make any sense. The only real argument that the government could have is that this country likes tradition and tobacco has been around since the early days of this country. Tobacco was discovered in the late 1600's and was mainly used in killing pesticides for plants. Eventually tobacco became famous for smoking. George Washington (the nations first president) became America's first major tobacco farmer and his colleague was Thomas Jefferson (the nations third president). By the early 1700's, colonists began to be export tobacco to Europe. The leaf was so valuable that it paid American wages, taxes, and debts. During the American Revolution, tobacco paid the interest on loans from France. In those days people didn't know that the smoking of tobacco could kill them. Just because the tobacco leaf had a lot of value during colonial days doesn't mean we have to stick by tobacco's side right now.
Most of the ingredients found in cigarettes are not good for the human body and are very addicting.
