There are many ways people identify with a movie or show. SOme will focus on the surface and yet others view a particular movie as a symbolic representation of the world's past or current events. George Luca's "Star Wars" movies contain many symbols that relate to several relgions. These three emblematic symbols-"The Force", will be compared and show a relationship between Taoism .
The emblematic symbol from the movie "Star Wars" that represents Taoism is the "force". The fore is known to be "an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us." The "Force is very powerful. With this kind of power, people are able to manipulate it any way they see fit. By this logic, the "Force" could be related to the beliefs of Taoism. Taoism is on e of the two major religions of China. It advocates preserving the Tao(the way) in the body and the cosmos. Taoism beliefs include that the Tao is the first cause of the universe and the end of all things. It is the "foce" that flows through human life.(1) This is exactly what Luke's teacher advises to him, "Be one with the force, Luke".(For example during the scene when Luke Skywalker is trying to avoid the laser blasts from the flying machine, but he is unsuccessful.) When Obi-wan Kenobi puts on a helmet to blind Luke, he then tells him to feel the force, and luke sucessfully defends himself. This proves that force is such a powerful thing, exactly in the beliefs of Taoism.
