Milton was born on September 13,1857,in old stone farmhouse built by his great-grandpa near the little town of Derry Church,PA.By the time Milton was 9,there family had moved several times.Tragedy struck there family when Milton was 11 heis sister died.Milton had a lot of pressure on him. His mother fanny was always yelling.Also his father put hopes on him cause hes ideas never worked.Milton left home at 13 for Lancaster,PA,to work with Joe Royer at his ice cream,parlor and garden.he would spend four years learnng how to make delicious things:candy,ice cream,and cakes.Milton loved makeing candy. from that job he new what he wanted to do with his life.In May 1876,after four years of hard work and learning,Milton Hershey thought it was time to go into the candy business for himself.Milton knew that his mother and aunt Mattie were his family he could count on. his aunt Mattie gave him $150 to start his business.He went to Philadelphia for the worlds fair in honer of fthe u.s. birthday. Milton rented a small brick shop were he could live adn work.ON June of 1876 milton put up his sign "Milton S. Hershey,confectioner." Milotn worked very hard his mom and aunt moved with him to help him work. Then he decided he needed more help so in 1880 he hire a man named William Lebkicher. Milton was 25 broke and out of busniess. The suger was gone and no more Milton lose 2,500,000. He left there and went to look somewhere else. He rented a new shop and started again and his mother and aunt came to help him. Milton worked harder and harder .But just before, he had trouble making a profit.He got enoght money to send his aunt and mom home and got money to send his equipment he left and went to lancaster. They found a factory and he was in business again.
