Definations of beauty potrayed by the media are ones of being extremely thin and only include men and women with the "perfect" bodies. Popular icons like Mattel's Barbie Doll are blamed by many for giving unrealistic ideas about how a women should look (Worshop 1101). Women tend to try to copy these "perfect" images portrayed by the media by unhealthy means such as one of the eating disorders. Persistant and very persuasive media messages that encourage dieting that makes you loose a lot of weight in short amounts of time (Eating Disorders). The accepted body image standard is thinner now than it ever has been and women often try these diets and end up developing an eating disorder (Worshop 1114).
             Interpersonal factors that deal with how you can express yourself and have relationships are also causes of eating disorders. People that have difficulty expressing their own emotions and feelings are often at risk for developing an eating disorder (Eating Disorders). Also having relationship and family problems may also onset an eating disorder (Eating Disorders). Society tends to view overweight people as unattractive and lacking discipline within themselves (Worshop 1099). This may onset an eating disorder because of this society belief, many people are teased about their weight resort to eating disorders as a way to loose the weight and stop the harassment. Females that have an history of sexual abuse are also very vulnerable to developing an eating disorder (Eating Disorders). If a family member is preoccupied with their weight and eating habits, it also makes you more vulnerable for developing an eating disorder (Eating Disorders).
             Some experts say that a cause of eating disorders is a chemical imbalance (Eating Disorders). They say that some eating disorders suffers have chemical imbalances in their brain that controls their hunger, appetite and digestion (Eating Disorders). This chemical imbalance may onset an eating disorder as well.
