Body responses to Temperature

            
             The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the human body's physical response to immediate changes in temperature (i.e. extreme hot or cold). In conjunction with the use of a scientific model to help describe and interpret the regulation of human body temperature.
             APPARATUS.
             Clinical Thermometer.
             Buckets and Tubs, 2-4.
             Hot and Cold Water.
             Stopwatch.
             Electric fan .
             Ice.
             Extra items of clothing such as a Jumper.
             PROCEDURE.
             Step 1: Two volunteers removed the majority of their clothing items and were subjected to cold conditions by having their feet in icy water and having icy water poured on their heads while a fan was acting like a breeze. .
             Step 2: Two other volunteers were made as hot as possible, by putting on extra clothing and dipping their feet in hot water. .
             Step 3: A temperature reading of all four volunteers was taken every 2 minutes each with a clinical thermometer. Their pulse was recorded every 5 minutes.
             Step 4: Throughout the experiment the appearance of each of the subjects was recorded.

             DISCUSSION AND EVALUATION.
             There were a number of problems associated with the experiment in terms of the consistency, accuracy of measurements and too many variables which should have been consistent. The following table also outlines a scoring (1-10 where 1 equals poor and 10 equals well done) as well as what needs to be changed to improve the overall results of the experiment.
