number of moral and ethical issues. But before dealing with these, knowing the plot of this movie is a must.
Jamal is a sixteen year old boy from the Bronx. He plays basketball for his high school and so people believe that this is his only one true talent. But they are wrong. Jamal also has exceptional talent in creative writing. So in other words no believes that he is good at writing. Even his teacher believes that he plagiarizes. One day, though, he meets a man named William Forrester, a famous author, who does.
One main issue that this movie touches on is, firstly, the fact that no one believes in the boy except for a man that you would least suspect. Another would be at the basketball game where he is given the offer to either win the championship for his current school or the board will have a conference to decide what will happen to him; this being more than likely him being dismissed from the school. Also when he did plagiarize without knowing it the teacher questioned whether he had the permission of the author (William Forrester). He ended up saying no because William trusted him not to tell anyone about their friendship. When Jamal said no he had the risk of being kicked out of the school.
The sub issues that Jamal had to deal with include breaking into Forrester's home and disrespecting his property as well as stealing from him or to be chicken and not follow through with his friend's dare; believing the story that William is a killer and to not become close to him; to do well in school or be accepted as a winning basketball player; do well on the test to show what he can do or keep it hidden and do bad; to go to the private school and leave his friends behind so that he can better his education and to hand in the paper even though whatever they write in Forrester's apartment has to stay there.
