Charlie and Algernon


             In some cases some mentally retarded people are slower than fellow retarded people. Sometimes even animals are smarter than these people. Some people can accept it but others cannot they always want to be smarter. Which there is nothing wrong with wanting to be smarter, but in some cases it's not permanent. When some people find this out the get very upset others understand and try to fix it. Others try to take control of everything.
             When Charlie found out he could have the chance to become more intelligent he pounced on the chance. He knew that it might not work but he didn't care he would try anything to be smarter. He thought if he was smarter that more people would like him and he would be able to have a normal conversation. When he went into the lab and found out that Algernon was more intelligent than him it made him want to do it more. When Charlie and Algernon met they became friends, even though Algernon was a mouse. That didn't make a difference to Charlie because he liked to be friends with everyone. When finally Charlie became smarter he kind of forgot about his little friend Algernon, he had greater interests. He also lost many friends because they could not pick on him any more because he knew better. That greatly disappointed him, because he became even lonelier.
             Leonard was a different kind of retard he was in a state of sleep, permanent sleep. Everyone believed that he would never wake up except one doctor, who believed that he could wake his patients up. After a long time of no reaction he finally succeed and he was so happy. Leonard woke up and he started to become a regular human being. His mother was so proud of him and so happy that he finally woke up after all of these years. He was so happy also because he could read again and he could learn again and that he had the chance to become a normal person again. His doctor knew that there was the chance that it would not be permanent and it might just last a week or two.
