Popular music borrows from old

Some music songs stand the test of time and some don't. Some in fact stand the test of times and are so good or have suck good beats that other artist will in fact remake or remix them. In some cases they will just use the beats of a song and not the words or chorus at all. This happens a lot in the Hip-Hop or Rap genre where artist such as Doctor Dre, Snoop Dogg, R Kelly, P.Diddy, and Eminem have used the beats to a popular 80's song as the beats to a number one rap hit. P.Diddy AKA Puff Daddy was very successful in the early ninety's doing this with such songs as Been Around The World, You Can Hate Me Now, and Can't No Buddy Hold Us Down. All of these were top hits for him and all of these also sampled beats from previous songs. Most of the time when a Rap artist will do this he will use the beats of a song that was not a tremendous pop hit. But this was not the case with rapper Eminem AKA Slim Shaddy when he produced a song called Sing For The Moment on his newest album The Eminem Show. This song is a remake of the popular Aerosmith song Dream On from the 1970's. In fact the Detroit rapper did not just remake or used the beats of this song he used the actual refrain. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith gave Eminem his blessing to use this song. It turned out to be a wonderful song indeed. .
             Melody.
The melody of these two are actually very close to the same. In fact the refrain of each song the part we all sing along to has the exact same words and almost same notes. The range is very similar the only difference is in the Aerosmith song the range between notes is slightly bigger of a gap. The shape and movement of the melody are the same in each song. I like this because nothing is lost. There is no reason to change it when it was already a great melody. Both songs now have the same great melody. .
             Harmony.
The harmonies are quite different in fact I am not even sure if there is much harmony in the Eminem version since it is a rap song except the refrain.
