APENG Summer Assignment

Throughout my summer I had to make certain changes and restrictions to better accomadate the situation I was in. In past summers I didn't have to read so many books, so this assignment was a bit of a shock. Upon recieving the three books, I immediatly set up a schedule so I could be ready by the beginning of the new school year. I set it up to be a book a month, with reading atleast an hour a day, however it didn't turn out that way. Many distractions left me with only one book read at the beginning of August. Although I was able to finish all three of them, it wasn't easy. I actually regret the fact that I had to rush through "Their Eyes Were Wating God". As many may think that summer reading helps stimulate the mind after sitting down on a couch watching television all day or coming home from a boring day of work.
I began my summer with reading "Angela's Ashes: because I thought it was best to get down with the bulkiest book first. I spent most of my time reading in my livingroom at one in the morning. To me that was the best time to read because its so quiet and there are no distractions. WHile reading "Angela's Ashes" a few scence sparked something in my mind and made me actually savor the moment of reading carefully what was going on. The reason why I paid more attention to these certain scenes were mainly because it brought back old memories in which I could relate to. For example on pages 154 through 155, there was a simple scene when Mr. O'Neil teases the children with an apple peel until one of the answers the question correctly. But the twist is when one of them did get it, all of the other children would bombard the singled out one with 'pleases' and 'nows' and you know they don't want to make anyone unhappy so they gve it all out until nothing is left. To me that's a shame that there were so many starving children back then in Ireland and its sickening to read about them acting like little savages towards a little kid because for all that they know he could be starving too.
