The Evolment of Contact Lenses

Improvements in regards to better sight have come a long way over time. This is due to inventions and developments with eyeglasses, bifocals, and most of all, contact lenses. In 1508, Leonardo da Vinci sketched and formed several forms of contact lenses (Adeline5). By 1632, Rene Descartes of France suggested the corneal contact lens (Adeline 5). Thomas Young, an inventor in 1801, developed Descartes' idea. This was a quarter-inch-long, water-filled glass tube, the outer end containing a microscopic lens that was used to correct his own vision (Adeline 5). Later, in 1987 disposable soft contact lenses became available for commercial distribution (Adeline 5). Also, a soft contact lens to change eye color became available for commercial distribution, as well as the first multipurpose lens care product (Adeline 5). From 1992 through 1998, different types of disposable lenses became available (Adeline 5). In 1999, the new generation extended wear soft lenses were introduced (Contact 1). Throughout this time line, contact lenses have evolved in great ways. People everywhere have purchased them at some time or another to enhance their looks and sight all in one. It is a trend that will keep on advancing to be better year after year, with more perks involved. .
Many people consider contacts to be a blessing. Contacts take away the annoying frames of glasses on your face. Not many people are fond of glasses and the way they make them look, so contacts are a good way to boost their self-esteem. They help make people feel more beautiful and more self-confident to approach people in public or in the work force. Many adolescences may purchase contact lenses to stop cruel criticism about their glasses. I personally got contacts because I wanted to feel better about myself in front of a group of people. I didn't want to be the only girl in our school musical with glasses, so I wanted to get contacts so I would look better.
