Conflict


It may perhaps, terminate a relationship or the individual be perceived as negative. The face-paced lifestyle in our country does not like to incorporate negativity in their lives, since they have too many worries on a daily basis. Thus, it seems people may avoid conflict to avoid being perceived as unconstructive.
             During communication there is many tactics people use to communicate effectively without being aware they are being used. "Direct denial, Topic shift, Understanding and concern, Acceptance of responsibility, Threat, Sarcasm," and "Prescription;" are commonly used when communicating with strategy. Also, people find that most are used from the "Distributive Tactics" which seem to be aggressive, because individuals would like to be perceived as strong when confronted with conflict.
             Let us discuss with each tactic with depth and by personal experiences relating them with our conflicts. .
             Jamie is currently having "love problems" with her ex-boyfriend. She usually comes and vents to her friend and asks for advice; and Katie does the best she can to show understanding. The "Understanding and concern" tactic is usually used to show the sender understanding. About a day ago, Jamie came and said, "I hope one day I can just say- NO!" Katie responded by saying, "I know exactly how you feel." This demonstrated an ability to sympathize with her.
             According to "Social and Personal Relationships Journal" findings suggest women are more "negative active" when their perceptions on conflict appear, whereas men perceived themselves to be "positive passive" when dealing with conflict management. "Positive association between understanding of partner's conflict management factors conflict management and satisfaction is vital." .
             Distributive Tactics particularly illustrate tactics that are aggressive than other tactics explained. I can now understand why it seems that I use them on a frequent basis.
