Blackout 2003

In ways, internet and the power grid are similar. The power grid and the internet are both connected to every major city on the grid. Other than similarities, there are differences between internet and the power grid too. If the internet was out at one place, people around that area would still be able to keep connected to the internet because the internet was designed so if one place disconnected, people would still be able to communicate from other places. Whereas in the power grid, if one place loss power, that place starts to rely on the power of another area and possibly overload their generators, causing a great loss of power, such as the incident on August 18th. .
If the power was out for two weeks, it would have affected us consumers more intensely. It would have been very hot because it would still be summer and the intense heat would still be occurring. The food supply would also spoil because there are no fridges and freezers to store the foods. Also, we would not be able to cook food with the stove and oven. In an economical view, it will also not be good. We would most likely be at a state of emergency, as we will no longer have gas and water. There would be no planes in and out of Ontario, affecting there to be no tourism revenue. Almost nothing will be open and the cost of almost all things will rise due to the high demand. Businesses would suffer great losses, as they will not be able to work due to the power outage. Services will not be offered and there would be no school for students to attend. This power outage has caused the governments to re-evaluate the power grid so that a big power outage would not occur again in the future. .
