             Problems Many Biracial Children Have Faced in This World.
             Biracial children have faced many problems throughout history. Some of those problems faced include racism, embarrassment, and even family problems. Although, interracial couples have been more accepted in our society today, it was not always that way. Back in the old days, and not to long ago, people were harassed for even looking at someone of a different race. So, to have a biracial child was unacceptable and completely out of the question. The number of biracial children since then has increased. .
             According to the 1992 U.S. Census, there are about 1,161,000 racially mixed families in the United States. Of these, about 246,000 are couples in which one partner is African American and the other "white". The number of children born of these relationships must be hundreds of thousands to even millions. The number of black-white marriages quadrupled in the past twenty years. Today it is estimated that the number of biracial children is from 600,000 to 5 million. .
             Biracial children are faced with many hurdles in life, including expressing a racial description of who they are in their own words, coping with labels imposed upon them by others and resolving differences related to their ethnic identity. By developing positive self-images in biracial children through providing an environment that celebrates diversity. These children have a greater chance of having positive peer and family relations, as well as higher levels of academic achievement. This is socially beneficial, as well as personally critical, for these individuals. .
             Embarrassment is one of the hardest hurdles for a child to jump. While school should be a fun enjoyment to all kids, it can be a complete dread to those kids who are constantly teased about their ethnic background. Dealing with constant name-calling and ridicule can make a child emotionally distressed. Other embarrassment comes from going in public with one or both parents.
