I knew him

Upon being promoted to Supervisor, I was asked to consider the following questions:.
How are you going to translate the success obtained from one store into a multi-store environment? What is going to make you a successful supervisor?.
The answer was obvious. I am going to have to train and develop my Store Mangers to the same effect that I was trained and developed. I looked at it like this. To be a good Shift Manager, you need to train and condition your crew. To be a good 1st Assistant, you need to train and condition your managers. To be a good Store Manager, you need to train and condition your 1st Assistant(s). To be a good supervisor, I am going to have to train and condition my Store Managers. In order to develop my plan, I first had to look at what I thought made me successful in a single store environment. I then had to see if those same criteria could be applied in a multi-store environment. What I concluded was that I could not feasibly expect to follow the same pattern of success I was accustomed to and expect it to work in multiple stores. The reason was simple. There just weren't enough hours in the day to make it happen. So, what was taking all the time? In each situation I was presented with, it seems I was driven to succeed by four primary characteristics: Pride, Development, Job Ethics, Results. These characteristics accounted for more than the typical 8 hour a day/ 40 hours a week work schedule. Although there were other contributing factors, I found these four to stand out. I broke it down like this:.

             • Pride.
o Pride is the biggest contributor to my success. I take a lot of pride in the job that I do. My work is a reflection on me. It is my reputation. I want to be the best I can be. I am never satisfied with the status quo; I am constantly striving to improve something or myself.
o Pride drives me to develop others. It brings me great joy knowing it was because of me that they are learning, succeeding, and growing in their job knowledge.
