             Although many mental illnesses are often generalized and not differentiated, diseases such as Schizophrenia serve as prime examples of how such illnesses are not always alike. For example, while researching Schizophrenia versus a form of insanity such as Dissociative Disorders, it is clear that the two are strongly separate in their diagnoses. While both are mental problems, the two are characterized by differing causes, symptoms, side affects and treatments. .
             Schizophrenia is a chronic, severe, and disabling brain disease caused by a selection of contributing factors. While much is still unknown about the disease, researchers believe that the illness is often brought on by genetics as well as chemical imbalance and physical abnormality of the brain. The disease is equally frequent in both men and women and usually not found until adulthood. Symptoms range from irregular emotional expression and social withdrawal to hallucinations which may affect a person's entire world. Patients suffering from Schizophrenia are treated with medication as well as psychotherapy, both of which are necessary in order to work towards improvement however, a person will never fully recovery from Schizophrenia as an illness.
             Forms of insanity such as those referred to as Dissociative Disorders are also contributed to by the brain. However, this particular illness is not brought on by genetics or simple brain defects but childhood experiences pertaining to abuse. Those suffering from a Dissociative Disorder maintain a disconnection from full awareness of self, time, and/or external circumstances. They go through life acting in defense to their personal histories. Unlike Schizophrenia, the illness is not treated with medication but instead long term, intensive therapy that often lasts between three to five years. .
             Remedies.
             Throughout history, remedies for Schizophrenia and insanity have progressed a great deal.
