             I was shocked when i read this due to new York giving a nice clean.
             image. Really, it's the same as Glasgow with its street violence and poverty.
             It also refers closely to the darkness and associates it with evil,.
             "But midnight is not so easily defeated.".
             Giving me the idea they are always trying to beat it but it is impossible.

             "uncivilised darkness".
             Giving the reader an idea that it's out of control and always happens.

             In my opinion the side i have seen to New York has been completely.
             different from the side Norman McCaigs view of it. He has described.
             the violent side of the city as opposed to the glamourous side in which.
             so many people associate with New York.
             Stanza 2, is mostly of what the streets are like at night, "warhoops",.
             "Canyons and Gulches". These two phrases refer to the noise outside.
             and carry the shocking image of how noisy the streets are. This was.
             a particulary good way of putting the idea of how loud the streets are.
