             In the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, by Tom Stoppard, there are many different themes that are exemplified in the play. One of the themes is the idea of fate. The play is written with the idea that nothing in under our control in this world, and all of mans forthcomings can be determined by fate. Even Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, who seem to be such seemingly insignificant characters, have a set fate throughout the play. In their "make believe" world, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern's fate is already set for them, in which they have real destinies, and purposes. If these characters were to change in way, Hamlets world come crashing down. .
             From the very beginning of the play, it is apparent to the reader that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are determined to die. Throughout the whole play, there are many events that foreshadow the death of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. For example, when Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are playing the coin toss game, the coin keeps landing on the heads side, this foreshadows the fact that either their heads will be chopped off, or they will get hanged. No matter how many times they flipped the coin, the coin still landed on the heads side. This goes against the theory of probability, which just proves even more how fated Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are to die. .
             Another theme that is prominent in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is.
             "timelessness." The play is written in the form so the characters are never really sure when events occur. For example Rosencrantz and Guildenstern can never really remember their past, and they are forced to depend on others on what occurred. The play also mentions many strange times and places, for example "A Cinhaman of the Tang Dynasty.".
