In response to this she tells Atticus to fire Calpurnia. Atticus says that Calpurnia is a part of the family and that she wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.
Jem takes Scout aside that evening and tell her not to upset Alexandria. Scout thinks that Jem is just trying to act superior and starts to wrestle with him. She gets sent to her room. In her room she thinks she hears a snake under the bed, but it is in fact Dill. He explains that he doesn't like living at home so he ran away from home and took the train to Maycomb. Atticus lets Dill stay with them, but he tells Dill's Aunt Rachel about the situation.
