Throughout the history of literature major literary works has dealt with the confrontation of death such confrontation can be either positive or negative. .
After reading The Man with the Flower in His Mouth I believed that the confrontation with death was positive. Being confronted with death, such as the man in the story, who realized that the end was near for him once he was diagnosis with cancer and given ten months to live. He realized that death is eminent for all and everyone should not take advantage of the life they are given and to enjoy all things as some lives are cut short. The man learned that everyone should enjoy eating well, to cherish what fruits are in season, to admire the grass growing along side of the road, to walk versus taking a taxi, and to examine how things are done such as the simple task of a package being wrapped. He also realized that everyone is unique and that we all should observe each other in our every day lives. The man didn't realize and enjoy life until it was almost over. The positive with the confrontation of death is that the man wanted to tell everyone that life is precious, valuable, and limited.
Another story which the confrontation of death was positive was the story of The Open Boat where the cook, the oiler, the correspondent, and the captain survived a shipwreck and remained floating in the violent sea on a dinghy. The men worked as a team, knowing that if they did not that the end was near for all of them. They all discussed that if they die that whoever survived would contact next of kin and let them know what happened and their feelings. Reading this story makes one understand that we must always realize that death can be near and .
we must always tell our loved one that we love them, and that we must not ever try to understand why the timing of our demise.
Usually, most of us would believe that the confrontation with death is negative as no one wants to die.
