Johann Sebastian Bach


S.) Bach was pleased to attend school. Although he was an unruly .
             youth who despised authority, it did not keep him from furthering his studies and .
             accomplishing his goals. He was known by others as having a "mind of his own." .
             (WOLF42). Bach attended the Latin school in Ohrdruf where he was not only becoming .
             a better instrumentalist but also an excellent choir member.
             (J.S.) Bach obtained an excellent soprano voice and was asked by the school's .
             Cantor one morning in 1698 to lead his choir. This was the first leading role as a .
             musician. Sebastian Bach had stayed with his brother, Johann Christoph, for nearly five .
             years, but it was time for him to move on. Christophs" family was becoming too large so .
             Bach had to leave. (J.S.) Bach then decided he would begin to travel. At this time Bach .
             was nearly fifteen and wanted to find a school that would offer him more. He and one of .
             his good friends traveled, on foot, to a North-German musical center in Luneberg, .
             Germany. Here Sebastian received a scholarship for his beautiful soprano voice, but it .
             was because of his violin playing that he developed while there that allowed him to stay .
             after loosing his soprano voice.
             The teenage years brought Bach to many parts of Germany where he mainly .
             worked as an organist in churches, since that was the skill he had perfected the most from .
             his childhood training, however, a master of several instruments while still in his teens. .
             He was now on search for a job. He wanted the post as an organist of Arnstadt where a .
             new organ was being built. Johann Sebastian finally attained the open position as a .
             violinist in a court orchestra in Weimar. At the age of eighteen he had already found .
             employment using his talent. Although he did not remain there very long, he was able to .
             make a considerable amount of money playing for the Kings court. After a short amount .
             of time at Weimer, he was then offered the position at Arnstadt.
