In the story he didn't seem to have many friends or people to talk to. Gallaher was a friend but a "busy" one. Whenever Chandler tries to write something down or read Byron, something seems gets in the way. For example, he was left with his son one night and the child wouldn't stop crying. The way in which Chandler handled this particular situation is by yelling and telling him to stop. But Chandler refers to the child as an "it", as if the child wasn't human. When he " Began to rock it to and fro in his arms but its wailing cry grew keener. He rocked it faster while his eyes began to read the second stanza". .
I feel that Chandler is stuck in a cloud of his own thoughts. I think the things that keep getting in the way of what he wants is the fact that he is a married man. Therefore, he feels a sense of regret. By thinking about what he could have been or what he ought to be is not going to solve his problem. Chandler, "Listened while the paroxysm of the child's sobbing grew less and less; and tears of remorse started to his eyes". Chandler felt bad for himself and his unhappy normal, regular life style or happy that the child finally stopped crying. .
A simple thing as a baby crying he couldn't handle, how about being rich and famous? Some people can not handle being in that situation. In addition, it wont guarantee that your life will get any better. After all, money sometimes is the root of all evil. The short story "Araby" by James Joyce shows that the boy has similar characteristics to Chandler in "A little cloud". They both think of ways to make their miserable lives bearable. In "A little cloud", Chandler thought about poetry as a way of an escape. .
The boy in "Araby" describes the details of his neighborhood as if it were a prison he was living in. In addition, he says "The wild garden behind the house contained a central apple-tree and a few straggling bushes". The apple tree was in the middle of the garden, away from other plants.
