Jesse Ventura -- Blue Collar Politician

To the surprise of his opponents, his honesty won him more support from college students. According to exit polls, Ventura carried every age group under sixty and every income level under $100,000 (6). Many political analysts believe Ventura would not have won the election had Minnesota not had Election Day voter registration. The state had a phenomenally high voter turnout -- 61%. Nearly seventy percent of voters who registered the same day voted for Ventura. The losers of the election are trying to claim that that statistic proves the election was fraudulent (7). Ventura proved he was the best candidate for the job. He has no party lines to follow and can do what is best for the state, not just himself.
Ventura is very outspoken about his views on social issues. He, along with 70% (8) of Minnesotans, does not fit into either of the two controlling political parties. Major government reform is needed to better represent the people. Our country was built with the intention that the citizens would decide their government, not false political campaigns or high-dollar special interest groups. The requirements to be governor are: live in the state for one year and be 25 years or older. That's it. "I think that's what the Founding Father's wanted," Ventura claims (9). The two-party system represents only 30% of the population. Third party candidates need to receive better financial support to be able to introduce a better democracy into the system. As of now our "democracy" consists of a selection between two candidates whom represent a small portion of the population. Term limits are very important because they provide an important link from the political office to the world of the common citizen, which will keep the government on track (10). Ventura generally feels taxes should be lower and gratuitous programs gotten rid of. He supports replacing income tax with consumption tax.
