Rhetorical Analysis Of "Flying The Friendly Skies"

The title for this editorial seems to be chosen in order to show the audience that in fact the skies are not very friendly. In a matter of sarcasm she tells us that United States airlines are indeed to be one of the safest places in the world to fly. Yet after September 11, those kinds of titles went down the drain. .
She mentions that most of us had no quarries about flying in what is undoubtedly a "high speed tube of metal as a form of transportation". She also says that America knew about high jackings and crashes but they were so "few and far between" that everyone sort of disregarded them. It is almost as though we forget about these things in order to feel safe and secure in our every day life. .
It is amazing how quickly terrorists can wreak havoc on our nation and do it so decisively. As the editor has mentioned in the second paragraph of her article "in only a matter of hours terrorists managed to turn commercial airliners into makeshift missiles and attacked American landmarks in an effort to rip the fabric of our society apart". .
The editor creates a strong sense of logos behind this paragraph by stating the obvious and telling what is true. Many people think that by choosing a different means of transportation that they will solve their problems but the truth of the matter is that air travel is still the easiest and most efficient way to get around. The editor states that even though she was fully aware of the incidents that occurred she still chose to travel by air. Then she goes on to tell us that security was fairly tight but security did allow passengers to be let off at the door. .
The author builds on her ethos as she gives personal examples of what she experienced at the airport. As people might not have expected the editor writes that she was not asked the required security questions before she boarded the plane. She goes on saying that even though security is not doing their total job in some areas, in others they tend to scrutinize.
