Later this person could retell this modern version and state what he or she believes the play to be as a fact. This is a possibility of changing a part of the play for the next generation to come. If this is to happen, something of what Shakespeare if known for has changed and his original masterpiece is now changed into someone else's ideas. Still, whether thenew? play is good or not, credit is given to Shakespeare. Shakespeare should be known for his ideas and his ideas only.
After observing the modern version, Romeo and Juliet, and reading the classic, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet play, the conclusion that the modern version is not beneficial to the understanding of the drama was because the modern version does not give the full effect of the true classic. In the modern version, the director has Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet, Old Montague, and Lady Montague characters use first name. The original play does not. The modern version does not speak all of the original play's lines. When watching this and knowing how the play should truly go, the characters in the modern version look foolish speaking as if they were in earlier times and acting in modern settings. This can make the original play look foolish. A classic such as Romeo and Juliet should be given the credit it deserves. The modern version could be confused as a mockery. No person should have the right to mock Shakespeare's work because he is not here to defend himself and his work has no reason to be mocked. In the balcony scenes, Romeo does modern actions that does not happen in the original play. He falls in the Capulet's pool. This does not give the effect of a classic. People in earlier times would not have a pool. Also during a balcony scene, Juliet is not on the balcony. She is with Romeo and they both eventually end up in the pool. This is changing the play completely. When a modern version changes such an important scene, it changes the true effect it was supposed to give to the audience.
