             bars for life? This is a law that many lawbreakers in California are affected by every year. This paper will be explaining the three strikes law in California and the people charged with it. It will also explain what crimes they did to get charged and the extent of their crimes. Many of the offenders other offenses are just little .
             petty crimes that will be explained why they are sentenced the three-strikes law.
             The three strikes law has some downsides. Many people have examined .

             majority of the offenders that are sentenced have two felonies or violent crimes. .
             When they get a petty crime then get tried for it they generally say that was three .
             strikes. There sentence gets twenty-five years to life is the only sentence you .
             can get. I agree with many people who say that this is cruel and unusual .
             punishment under the eighth amendment in the U.S. constitution.
             I think that it can be classified as cruel and unusual punishment because one bad .
             period in there life they made some bad choices so they have to spend the next .
             twenty five years in prison. Its just not right. If it was major crimes worth life then that would be a different story. Also they are being tried for offenses that they have already been tried for once and sentenced for once. Now they have a new offense they get tried for again. That's double jeopardy, which is illegal. Hundreds Of parolees that have done their time, who are really changed that have two offenses? Already know that they can't just slip up, one accident or they will be thrown in Prison. We are talking about over half of these people were convicted on pathetic Charges. Petty crimes that a few years in prison and parole could change.
