Working In Groups

I have had many experiences working in groups in the past eighteen years of my life. Some have been more difficult than others while some have posed other problems. However, in all of my experiences I have learned that there are three important things to successfully working in a group.
While in high school I played football for four years. This is one example of working in a group. On a football team, there are at least thirty people that are all working towards the same goal, a victory. They all have to work together as one. If everyone wants to do there own thing the team could never achieve any kind of victory. This requires the first step in working in a group, trust. Everyone on the team has to trust each other to do his or her job. This takes months even years of working together, but without trust you are going nowhere.
Also while in high school I was a part of student government. This has also proven difficult. There are many different people who have been elected by a student body to represent there opinion. These opinions often conflict with others making it very difficult sometimes to work together successfully. Trying to bring this diverse group of people together to achieve a goal that will be pleasing to the student body is tough. This task requires compromise. Although some may have totally different opinions than others, there is always ground in between that you can agree on. The second step to remember when working in a group is compromise.
Living in a household with a single or multiple siblings can be tough. I being the oldest of four boys in my family know what it takes to work together as a family or a group and live comfortably. Each person has to do their part to make the home an enjoyable place to live. This includes doing the chores assigned to each person and respecting another's privacy and personal space. When theses things are not done however, others get frustrated and upset.
