Modern Romance vs. Med

The clock strikes half past ten and still no sign of your knight and shining Armour. Thinking quietly to yourself you wonder where he is at, until out of the corner of your eye you see him approaching you. Whether this thought is during the medieval times where your knight approaches you on a white horse or modern day where your knight approaches in a white car, women are usually waiting for their so called hero. The image of a woman and her romance in medieval times and modern times contrast very differently. .
Women in medieval romance are usually pictured as having fantasy lives with everything going perfect for them. Lady's in fancy gowns, rich jewelry living in a beautiful castle with everyone following to their every command, with their hero coming to their rescue if they fall into trouble, not having to worry about anything because their knight will take care of everything for them. All of this is not all it is cracked up to be. When married in medieval time's women were married into a man's family that her own family thought would be suitable for her, she did not get to marry for love; if possible she had to learn to love the man. When a women was married she was the property of that man, he controlled her, she had to obey his every command, if she did not, she would be punished with beatings. They had to solely depend on the man for everything like food, clothes, money, anything they would want, because the men were the only one's who could work. Many things make up a medieval romance like suffering obsession, secrecy, jealousy, pleasure and much more. Many women did not enjoy being with their husbands, much less make love to them, this is one of the reasons why women had secret affairs with other men behind their husbands back, but doing this caused great danger and risks, if a women was caught having an affair she would be greatly punished, with her punishments ranging from heavy beatings to the death of her lover.
