Breaking Throgh The Glass Ceiling


The glass ceiling can mean different things to different people. I do not feel that women and other minorities should be given anything that is not deserved. Discrimination will never be totally abolished, because it has been handed down for generations. The only way to break the glass ceiling is through actions, not words. The men of our world are starting to realize the importance of women in the business world. Men are seeing women in powerful roles and may feel threatened, but women are still excluded from "the big boys club". .
             There are organizations designed to help women business owners. The National Women's Business Enterprise Council and the National Woman Business Owners Corporation are examples of organizations that help women succeed in business. These entities are giving women the unlimited opportunities by improving systems of corporations and government. Edie Fraser, President of the BusinessWomen's Network gave a speech about women and minorities in business. She reported that the resilience of our economy -in fact its very survival depends on our ability to create value for all Americans. The way to create value for all Americans is to build companies that are representatives of all Americans. Edie Fraser went on to say that women are shattering through stereotypes and breaking through misconceptions. Women-owned businesses are just as financially strong and creditworthy as the average U.S. firm . Women may not dominate the top rungs of corporate America, but we are climbing the ladder fast. According to Edie Fraser, 12.5% of all corporate officers in the Fortune 500 are women. (Speech, Women and Minorities In Business).
             Women are challenged to excel in corporate America. Corporations are addressing women stakeholders as a powerful demographic like never before. They are reaching out to women-owned firms to diversify their base of suppliers and vendors. Corporations are constructing strategic partnerships with companies committed to equality.
