Comparison And Contrast

"I may look like a rhinoceros, but I have a thin skin really." This is one of my favorite lines from my favorite movies, as well as books, "Circle of Friends". As with many made into movies there are many differences between the book and the movie.
"Circle of Friends" is the story of Benny, Eve, Nan, Jack, and their circle of friends. It is a story of love, loss, friendship, and growing up.
In the movie Benny, Eve, and Nan are all in school together in their hometown of Knockglen, Ireland. On the day of the girls" confirmation, Nan tells Eve and Benny that she is moving to Dublin. The three of them do not meet up again until their first day at the University.
The story in the book begins on the day of Benny's tenth birthday party. Benny invited the girls in her class, and her mother made her invite the orphan who lived at the local church, Eve. Benny was polite to Eve, but really did not want her there. A couple of days later, Benny defended Eve, and Eve stuck up for Benny, and they became friends for life. The two of them were always together. It wasn't until they get to college that they meet Nan for the first time.
The story of how Eve gets to school is another difference. In the movie, Eve goes straight to the family of her dead mother, the Westwards. Back in their day, the Westwards were rich, so when their daughter married a gardener, they disowned her. Eve's mother died in childbirth, and her father killed himself shortly after. Eve then became adopted by the local church because the Westwards wanted nothing to do with Eve. Eve felt it was only fair that the family pay for her university fees. .
On the other hand, in the book, right after finishing her leaving certificate, high school diploma, Eve goes to the sister church in Dublin. While she is there she acts as a house maid, making and serving meals, and doing light chores around the convent, and studies secretarial skills on the side.
