What is being said is that the artists know that he is hard headed and does not normally listen to people when they tell him that he needs to stop. The writers also know that the person has reasons why he is the way he is. This plea is saying that he needs to look at those reasons and decide whether they are good enough for him to stay like he is. .
             These things that he has become accustom to in his new self are talked about in the lines "I know these things that are pleasing you/ Could hurt you somehow." (4-5)They are speaking of these vices that are so wonderful to him are actually hurting him. This does not matter to him however. He has come to believe that the little fun he has with the vices are more important than the pain and suffering that he goes through trying to find and live with these things. The writers say that this is hurting him so much that he is getting to the point where he will wear himself out. The next lines talk about these vices that are hurting him. .
             Women are the main focus of the lines "Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy/ she"ll beat you if she's able/ You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet."(6-8) They are trying to say that you do not need women of many desires for material goods. These girls are not after you, they have found someone who they can take .

             Greed is the next vice that comes to mind in the lines "Now it seems to me, some fine things / have been laid upon your table/ But you only want the ones that you can't get."(9-11) This cowboy has been given some nice things, but that does not matter. He wants more than then he can get. They are saying that he wants too much.
