Dyadic Encounter

To try to get past the problems many things had to be done, the first of which was that I had to attract her attention and keep her interested so that we could have a conversation. I started to do this by first trying to find something in common but not to forward, so I saw that she was reading a paper so I asked if she knew who had won the baseball game the night before. After she decoded my message she responded with a very punctuated response, which made me think that she didn't want to talk, I felt that she was using civil inattention to try and tell me that she wasn't interested. With her response I didn't pursue it any farther and went back to my own intrapersonal work by writing down some quick notes. It was actually amber who after finishing her paper, started the conversation by again asking me if I would like it, I said no and used my hands as a affect display to say no. Instead of leaving it at that she asked which team I was rooting for, and after my response the conversation went from there. We started off talking about many different things and we changed subjects very quickly, and as we both became more comfortable with each other I could tell that the dyadic effect had taken place, because I found that we were both leaning on the arm bar to the inner seat, and that we had both moved our bodies to face each other rather than being face forward which help to show interest in one another through active listening techniques. After some small talk we started to find some personal things about each other, about where we were from and what we were doing with ourselves at this point in time. She told me first but I was really not focused because there was a lot of action starting to happen around me and I was becoming physically uncomfortable because my back was hurting so I kept giving her some alter-adapters, like nodding my head or a slight laugh to let her think I was listening.
