Fairy Tales: Not So Good For Children

Most parents think that all of these fairy tales passed on through generations are great entertainment for children, but think again. The often told stories of Snow White, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and more are not as innocent and as magical as you think. These stories will have a huge impact on your children as they develop into adults. .
Fairy tales are confusing for children and will give them the wrong ideas about what they can/can't do. Because of Little Red Riding Hood, a little girl or even boy might not want to walk through the woods; the wolf might be waiting around to eat someone! "If I kiss a frog will he turn into a prince?" What are children supposed to believe? When they grow up reading these stories it teaches them morals along with things parents don't want their children to think. The children don't know any better not to believe the wolf isn't going to eat them or they aren't going to eat a poison apple and fall to sleep until the prince rescues them. Are they going to know that when they die they aren't going to come back after somebody casts a magic spell on them? The answer is no. They aren't taught in the fairy tales not to believe them and to not think that they are real. .
Fairy tales set a bad example for women. Girls growing up on these fairy tales will get the wrong idea about where their place in society is. The man always saves the beautiful, helpless girl. Every little girl wants to be just like the princess in the story; they want to be beautiful and rescued from the prince. Women are portrayed to be extremely dependent on men in almost every fairy tale. If the prince didn't come along in Snow White, she would've never been woken up. What if children (girls) think they need the prince to come along before they can survive in the world? As they grow older, they may realize they don't need Prince Charming to come along and rescue them, but why should they ever have to think that? Also, the stepmother character is always evil and jealous of everything.
