How A Basketball Player Vertical Jump Hang Time

A basketball player starts in a bending position, The reason for this is that since he is starting at 0 velocity he needs all the momentum he can get to jump at least a foot higher than he can touch. Bending his knees between a sitting and standing position allows him to accelerate and explode up as high as possible, which fight gravitation pull for those couple of seconds. Second his velocity or acceleration then comes to be his rate of jump per second. Third the forces that the basketball player use are his own strength to make his own velocity, and momentum, which will help him as he struggles to fight gravity. He is decelerating the higher he goes because he is slowing down while going higher and higher until he touches the rim. Now he is going down because the gravity is pulling him down which made him now accelerate faster because he is falling faster than he was going up. Finally since he is going with the same force that was pulling him he is going down faster until the ground under him decelerates him.
