I Know Why Cage Bird...

I think that this book was extremely informative. I think that Maya Angelou wrote the book with an uncanny insight in being able to catch the readers attention, well mine at least, and make it interesting enough for me to keep my curiosity in tune. I thought that with all of the experiences that she had during the book, she expounded on all of them pretty well. From everything that happened to her from her early childhood in that her and her brother were sent on a bus from California to Arkansas to stay with her Grandma, when she was molested to when she ended up getting pregnant. I really thought that she carried the whole entire book really well with all of her experiences.
I thought a very interesting and funny part of the book was when Sister Monroe was in the church service and she would get all excited about what Rev. Taylor was preaching. She was so enthusiastically involved in the sermon and also in such agreeance with what was being taught that she would yell," preach it, I say preach it," a few times over. If you can just imagine an elderly lady getting involved into a sermon that much, and realizing that she was actually being serious, I would've laughed and giggled just like Bailey and Angelou did. Being their age, I think that they must have thought that was the funnies thing. Toward the end of this part in the book, Angelou said that," each time Bailey would say preach it, she would hit him because it would make her laugh hysterically.
Another interesting part of the book was when Angelou had a massive toothache and her grandmother took her to Dentist Lincoln. Angelou and her grandmother had been on the bus for a while and when they got to Dentist Lincoln's office, after talking to him he refused to do the work on Angelou's teeth because he said that he didn't treat colored children. The interesting fact of this situation was that Angelou's grandmother had helped out the dentist a few mos.
