Iman Abudulmajid, or just more commonly know as Iman, is a famous immigrant of the United States. Iman has become very successful in many ways in the United States.
Iman started her life out in Somalia, Africa. She was born on July 25. 1955. Her father was the ambassador of Somalia and her mother was a nurse. While growing up Iman learned to speak a total of six languages. After high school Iman went to the Nairobi University to get a degree in political science. Iman was just a normal girl till one day in 1975 when photographer Peter Beard spotted her walking across campus. This is the day that Iman was "discovered.".
Iman's life greatly changed after she was discovered. Iman decided to leave her political science training behind and decided to move to America. She had no trouble migrating to the U.S. Her first modeling job was for American Vogue in 1976. After that, Iman instantly gained popularity in the fashion world. Iman inspired many fashion designers such as, Versace and Calvin Klein. Throughout Iman's fourteen years of modeling she also was very popular with many photographers. Iman pretty much ended her modeling career when she married David Bowie. Iman was an idol in the fashion industry.
After Iman got married and had a child she decided to come out with her own line of cosmetics. This wasn't your ordinary line of cosmetics; it was Iman Cosmetics. It was a line of cosmetics designed for women of different colors. Iman's previous popularity in the fashion world greatly helped sky rocket the sales of her cosmetics. "I have a real sense of who the true woman of color is," say Iman. Just recently in 2000 Iman decided to launch a second beauty company. I-IMAN Makeup, which addresses the needs of all woman regardless of skin tone. Iman makeup has been a big success in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. Iman has been very successful with her line of Iman Cosmetics.
