Insomnia

For the centuries, a great number of people have been suffered for sleep problems. Numerous studies have been done on sleep apnea and narcolepsy. However, sleep problems occur with insomnia as well, yet the problem of insomnia has been denied by many people who do not realize how serious insomnia can be. Today, insomnia affects more than 84 million Americans, and is characterized by difficulty initiating or maintaining refreshing, restorative sleep. The guidelines were developed in response to a lack of awareness of insomnia, despite its high prevalence. In fact, most Americans have never initiated a conversation about sleep problems with a doctor, and nearly two-thirds say doctors have not asked how well they sleep, according to a recent National Sleep Foundation survey. Many people with insomnia, including myself, are experiencing a few nights of stress-related sleep disturbance. By definition, insomnia is a symptom that arises from a collection of many disorders. When a person has difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking early, the sufferer begins to dread not only the night but also the fatigue, mental clouding, and irritability of the coming day. The number of hours of sleep a person gets or how long it takes to fall asleep does not define insomnia. Insomnia is found in males and females of all age groups, although it seems to be more common in females and in the elderly. The ability to sleep, rather than the need for sleep, appears to decrease with advancing age. Insomnia is associated with dramatic impairments of psychosocial function and quality of life. .
Insomnia can be classified in many shapes and size. Each type has different qualities and solutions. Transient insomnia lasts up to several nights and the major cause of this type of insomnia is the stress. It can also be caused by jet travel that involves rapid time-zone change. A final exam, a cold, headache, toothache, bruised muscles, backache, or itchy rash are the common causes of transient insomnia.
