Israel, The Land Of Milk, Honey, And Blood

ISRAEL, THE LAND OF MILK, HONEY, AND BLOOD.
Israel has faced the threat of extinction since thirty-eight people signed and proclaimed the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel in the new Jewish city of Tel Aviv on May 14, 1948. They have had to come up with innovative methods to protect their borders, population, and national assets from incessant acts of terrorism. This paper will research anti terror tactics that have been developed in the spirit of self- preservation. Upon this declaration of establishment, as the last British high commissioner departed, Arab military forces declared war. Troops from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen were sent in to open a war on every front. The goal of these twenty five thousand Arabs was to push all Jews (Israelis) into the Mediterranean Sea. Israel's forces numbered approximately thirty five thousand and included such pre-statehood groups as The Hanagah (Defenders), Israel's first official military unit, The Irgun (Organizers), and the Stern Gang, the later two groups being consider Jewish Terrorist groups by the British and by the fledgling PLO, the Palestinian Liberation Organization, then led by Haj Amin Al-Hussein. By October 14,1948 the Arab force had grown to a force fifty five thousand strong while the Israeli military forces had increased to about one hundred thousand people. In battles of attrition, and using the skills of many European World War II veterans, the Israelis were able to set and protect what would be considered their territorial borders in January of 1949 until adding those lands won in the 1967 war. Most of the Arab forces signed armastice agreements with Israel and many of the pre-1948 Palestinian Arabs fled to neighboring countries. .
From 1949 to 1967 Israel focused most of it's resources and capital towards build the infrastructure of the country, all the while, organizing and forming one of the region's most formidable defense forces, now known as Tsva Lehaganah Lisrael (the IDF), the Sheen-Bet (Internal Intelligence, similar to our FBI), and the Mossad (similar to the CIA).
