Prometheus and Io



             .
             He had Argus, who had a hundred eyes watch over Io. The thing about Argus though that makes him such an exceptional watchman is that he could sleep with a few of his opened and still remain vigilant.
             Zeus thought of a plan to save the poor maiden and sent for Hermes to kill Argus. As soon as he arrived on Earth, Hermes instantly guised himself as a simple country fellow and attracted Argus's attention by playing sweet music with his pipe. Argus summoned him to his side and Hermes attempted to lull Argus to sleep by droning incessantly in the most monotonous and drowsily as he can. As a result, only a few of his hundred eyes would drift off to sleep, but not all. At last he was able to succeed when he told the story about Pan and Argus finally dozed off. Hermes killed him. After which, Hera put his eyes onto her favorite bird, the Peacock. .
             Io, unfortunately was still not off the hook and Hera sent a Gad-fly to pester and plague her until it eventually drove her to madness.
             Prometheus tried to comfort her by telling her of her fortune. He spoke of a ford and a part of the See wherein she had fled being named in her honor and that in the end, after much miserable wandering, she would come upon the Nile where Zeus will restore her to her human form and would eventually bear him a son named Ephaphus. Prometheus also spoke of one of her future descendants named Hercules whom he would owe his freedom.
             Europa.
             This story speaks of a young maiden whom at one morning had awakened from a strange dream she had concerning two continents, who shaped as women tried to possess her. One of which was Asia who declared that she had given birth to her and so therefore owned her, while the other who was yet nameless said to her that Zeus would would give the maiden to her.
             Europa then decided not to go back to sleep but instead she called upon her companions to go out and pick flowers in the field. At the same time, Zeus had been way up in the heavens idly watching them.
