In this story Yo, the oldest of the four girls, would not give into male dominance and peer pressure. This in the end made her life miserable and she was even driven insane because of it. Yo was from another country and was taught that sex was sacred and she should not give into men whom are after it. The reason she was miserable is because no man accepted her. So is it better for women to give into men to be accepted or stay true to themselves? This question should never be asked because women should not have to choose. All men, no matter what they choose to do, should accept women. Men are usually accepted no matter what path they take. This just shows that gender can greatly affect how someone turns out. .
Now I want to reverse the situation in the story Lust. The boy is now in the goat house and a girl would not let him out until he reveals his underwear to her. What would this do to the boy? My research shows that the boy would not like this situation at all. In the Field Guide to Parenting it states,Stereotypes promote the false idea that boys and girls have different and predictable behavior and feelings based on their gender.? The boy would not show his underwear because he would have already picked up the stereotype that it was a girl's place to show her underwear and not his. The young boy would think that if he showed his underwear this would make him less of a man. The young girl already has the stereotype that women's bodies are a work of art and should be showed off. Children do not realize that these stereotypical images are in their mind, but know when it is right for someone of their sex to do something. This shows how gender stereotypes affect the outcome of a person's life.
The narrator states in the story that,The surrender would be forgetting yourself?? What is this surrender the narrator talks about? It is the surrender that she feels obligated to give into men.
