            Diana Princess of Wales: A Modern Icon in the Society of Today.
             Diana is presented as a contemporary icon in the media. This is very evident in the following texts: The Song, The Candle in the Wind by Elton John [Appendix 1], the Earl Spencer, "The Eulogy for Diana, Princess of Wales" [Appendix 2] and the Cartoon, The Princess and the Pauper. Diana's fiefdom consisted of those who have marginalized by society; women, young people immigrants, gay people, the disabled and the dying, this is a unique quality in being an icon.
             The song, The Candle in the Wind by Elton John portrays Diana as a loving and caring individual who made the lives of everyone she came into contact with happy. The song says that although her body is gone her memory will never leave us. Elton John used many poetic features when writing the song, these include metaphors and similes. Examples of these are "England's Rose" and "Like a Candle in the Wind". He also uses emotive language, "The Joy You Brought to Us" and "Compassion".
             In Earl Spencer's Eulogy, he wrote it so that you felt as if you knew Diana even though you never knew her. Like Elton John did, Earl Spencer used emotive language "Laugh that bent you double"; he also used imagery and descriptive words to describe how beautiful she was, "Sparkle of those unforgettable eyes" and "The very essence of compassion of duty, of style of beauty.".
             In the cartoon, the characters are utilized in order to create while also relaying an important message by the end. The message in this particular cartoon is all ages are upset by the death of Diana. As you can tell through the essay after all the life of fame, glamour, royalty and status Diana remained a very loving person who only wants to do good for other. This proves that Diana really is a modern icon for the people of today.
