Its staff is led by chief resident Dr. John Carter who has been at Cook County for just a little over eight years. Following the role of leader is Dr. Kerry Weaver, who heads the hospital as chief of staff. Elizabeth Corday is a surgeon who has recently lost her husband, (Dr. Mark Greene) to brain cancer. She is now trying to raise her baby daughter alone while juggling work and social engagements. The staff also includes Dr. Luka Kovac. Luka is an ER attending physician who is originally from Croatia. He moved to America after his wife and children were murdered. He often finds himself searching for something to fill the void in his life, as most of us do today. Abby Lockhart is a nurse in the ER; she serves as the rock to almost every patient in this department. Dr. Robert Romano, a surgeon, who has recently been demoted from chief of staff, to chief of emergency medicine, is an arrogant doctor who uses his power to joyfully spite those who work for him. Dr. Jing-Mei Chen is an attending, who has sacrificed more than just long hours for Cook County General hospital. She is now looking to lighten life up a bit, and not take work so seriously. Dr. Susan Lewis has recently returned to Chicago in the past year and is in the process of taking an unfamiliar position as authority in the ER. Recent additions to the staff include; Michael Gallant, a medical student, recently graduated and become doctor, and Dr. Gregory Pratt an intern with a quick temper.
The hour-long drama "ER" can be compared to others in its category, such as; Law and Order and Third watch. These two shows, however; could never compare to "ER's" realness. These shows do not have the effort behind what it takes to write the scripts used for "ER". Although each is called drama, they lack the ability to tear the heart from your chest or allow you to cry tears of joy along with the characters. "ER", unlike others in it's category lives up to the word "drama".
