Propaganda During WW 1


Yet another category is political propaganda, an example of this is in the bible when it says that the Assyrian king Sennacherib attempted to terrify the kingdom of Judah into surrendering by the use of threatening propaganda. King Sennacherib questioned whom they believed in, who would help them against him; he threatened to destroy them and insuiated that he was doing all this with the Lord's permission. He did all of this hoping to break their spirit and beliefs.
             Another category of propaganda is literary propaganda. You can see examples of this in the pamphlets that Martin Luther king passed out or in Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin; a story of black slavery in the south that contributed to the growth of the abolitionist movement before the American Civil War.
             Another form of propaganda use is in wartime and is probably the best known; is the type of propaganda that is associated with the use of posters. An example this would be the liberty bond campaign printed for purpose of inspiring .
             people to invest in the war effort in the United States. (Childs, 1).
             Massive propaganda techniques began during World War 1. Both German and British propagandist worked to gain sympathy from U.S. German propagandist and tried to appeal to Americans of German decent and those of Irish decent; which were traditionally hostile to great Britain to aide their cause. But soon after the war broke out, Germany was nearly cut off from direct access to the United States. And a result of this British propaganda had little competition in the United States. Once the United States got involved in the war, they organized the Committee on Public Information, which was an official propaganda agency during World War 1. .
             The committee on public information used three main techniques to get their own propaganda to the people of the United States. The first technique used by the CPI was an emotional appeal.
