Reduce or Increase the Federal Budget for Defense?.
After the Cold War there have been many concerns that the Federal Budget should be increased and many others believe it should be decreased. The thoughts that I come up with are neither. .
With the Cold War over and Russia going through the financial and military changes it is going through, I think the federal budget should be shifted and rearranged within it. In Russia's attempt to reduce their nuclear weapons, this will definitely make Russia weaker. But, in the attempt to sell their nuclear weapons, they can possibly be attacking us indirectly depending on who they sell their weapons to. This doesn't make it a good idea to make too many more defense cuts as we already have since the Cold War ended. One problem reduces as another grows. If Russia sells these weapons to third world countries, this could be dangerous to us due to the fact that the origin of our terrorists is the third world countries. .
The Third World countries being the origin of the new war, the War on Terrorism, this proposes a different type of defense. We as Americans have been shown that the place we need the most defense is right here at home. The budget we have now is geared for a great deal of troops in foreign countries, nuclear warheads in numbers far beyond any other countries, air and sea vessels and crafts that are possibly not needed in these high numbers. We are sending too much of our military and money out of the country, we need to reduce that number and use the money to increase internal defense and intelligence. The terrorists were able to plan and execute a long and strategic attack on the United States. This successful attack proves that our defense is unbalanced. Times have changed, enemies have changed, and so should our defense styles.
We should not eliminate foreign defense and placements of bases and troops in foreign countries by too much though.
