File Sharing

Internet File Sharing: What is the big problem?.
File sharing has been the greatest advancement to the digital world, and I believe downloading music and internet file sharing should be legal. I am addressing the RIAA, Recording Industry of America. I am also speaking to people who believe downloading music is piracy or fraud. That idea is completely ridiculous. .
The technology that has developed over the past several years has been extremely amazing. Downloading music is also called file swapping and P2P (Peer to Peer Networking). Downloading music works in a specific way. Every computer on a File Swapping network has an IP address. An IP address is an Internet Protocol. It is like having a street address for your computer so all computers on a network can identify each other. This is how the RIAA is catching people who download a large amount of bandwidth. The music industry is able to scan computers through IP which tells them which computers are on an active port downloading music. They are then able to get the service provider and home address of the PC user. I believe people should be able to expand their knowledge in the music world and download or upload any media stored on their hard drive. This is a person's choice and they should be free to do as they feel. I have over 3,000 MP3 songs, and 100 videos on my computer. I choose to shares these files with others and that is my choice.
Copyright lawsuits are beginning to get ridiculous. A person should definitely not be penalized or sued for downloading large amounts of media. I understand the artist that is recording the CD does not agree with downloading music, but they make enough money from people who purchase the CD's at a local store. The RIAA is the company who has recorded over 1,000 IP's and is out to get all those music pirates. The Electron Frontier Foundation is a great organization. They are fighting and working to protect our rights of swapping files.
