Speaking Through Your Hands

Writing is something that one must truly have experience with in order to succeed. Even a novice reader can tell the difference in an experienced or inexperienced writer. Writing is a good way to express oneself without using one's voice. Writing is also something that a writer can leave as a legacy for future generations.
Writing is something I feel uncomfortable with. This stems from my lack of experience, not to mention that everyone is afraid of criticism. When I first began writing, I had a great deal of problems with writing letters backwards and misspelling words. After I crossed this hurdle, I would get an assignment and have no problem writing my feelings. However, these writings were assembled horribly and made little sense. One time in first grade, we were learning about fairy tales, and we had to write one of our own that was one page in length. In first grade, this was a large assignment. I began writing this assignment and quickly had four pages. I was so proud. I handed in my assignment and to my surprise, not only did the teacher dislike my story, but she also realized that the story I had written was parallel to "Goldie Locks and the Three Bears" I had however, changed the names, and made the tale involve a story of whales. She really did not like it, but I learned a valuable lesson which was "Use your own imagination." .
As time went on, assignments only got harder, but I also learned more and more about writing and grammar, which would help me in my later assignments. In junior high I had a great deal of writing assignments, which did not have very detailed instructions. For these assignments, I was forced to write a paper with little or no guidelines to follow. At this point, my imagination had developed but my actual writing skills were still in dire need of help. I wrote the papers and received good grades on content, however, my grades on the mechanics of the paper suffered.
