Stockbroker

When I thought about different economic career I thought that the most interesting one would be a stockbroker. A stockbroker is a person who serves as a go-between for buyers and sellers of stock. Basically stockbrokers help you make the best decisions to invest money in the stock market. Stockbrokers, or registered representatives, work in the most highly regulated industry in the country. Trusted with the responsibility to oversee the investments of millions of individuals, pensions and corporations, their conduct is constantly examined, some say to excess. For individuals stockbrokers act as dealer or investment managers. The also deal with financial services brokers specialize in bond issues, handling institutional accounts or mutual funds. Stockbrokers also work for large firms. With large firms they advise investments and carry out market transactions.
Typically stockbrokers make pretty good money. In 1982 the average salary for a stockbroker was around $33,000, 1992 the average climbed to over $116,000, and today the national average that a stockbroker makes is around $175,000 a year. I was surprised to find out that a stockbroker does not have to have any specific education requirements. In order to become a stockbroker you have to take and pass the series seven examination, a 250 question multiple-choice exam. Many stockbrokers take the exam within a month's time and get the six-figure income within their first year. Keep in mind that $175,000 is just a national average per year; there are many stockbrokers that make annual income in the millions. I think that is outrageous that you don't have to have any sort of education requirements, all you have to do is pass an exam and you can make all that money. Anyone, well if they could pass the exam, can make a six figure in their first year as a stockbroker.
After learning about what a stockbroker do I think it would be a very high stressed filled job.
