Lung Cancer

The TSNA known as NNAL also produces lung adenocarcinomas in rodents, although it is a more powerful pancreatic carcinogen (cancer-causing substance) in rats. (http://www.oncologychannel.com/lungcancer/causes.shtml).
Carcinogens other than those found in tobacco or tobacco smoke can also cause lung cancer if inhaled in quantity over time. These carcinogens include asbestos and radon. However, experts disagree about how much exposure to these specific carcinogens is dangerous. Workers who are exposed on a daily basis to asbestos, silica, mineral dusts, coal dust, arsenic or the radioactive gas radon are much more likely than the average person to develop lung cancer. .
Lung tissue that has been scarred by disease or infection, such as scleroderma or tuberculosis, is most susceptible to tumor growth. Because of a high incidence of lung cancer among people who eat large amounts of dietary fat and cholesterol, some researchers speculate that diet may also influence lung cancer risk.
             Solutions/Treatments .
As is true of many cancers, the treatment of lung cancer depends upon a variety of factors. The most important factors are the type of tumor that is present and its stage. Once a lung cancer has been staged, the physician and patient can discuss treatment options. An individual then has a better idea of the value of different forms of therapy. Other factors that are taken into account include the person's general health, medical problems that may affect treatment, and tumor characteristics.
The characteristics of the lung tumor separate individuals diagnosed with lung cancer into two different groups. The first includes those that are at a low risk of cancer recurrence, and the second includes those that are at a high risk of recurrence. Specific prognostic factors place patients in each of these groups.
Surgical resection of the tumor generally helps in cases where the disease has not spread beyond the lung.
