A boy stands silent, gazing upon the horizon. The broad waters glitter with tears of the sun. He smiles at what may be his final sunset. He is soon to navigate these waters, for he must prove to his tribe that he is prepared to become a man. .
As darkness falls, he sets sail; he must brave the nightly endeavor alone. Fear grows inside him. The center is now dark. He knows that the road to manhood remains wide open, as his dream to become a man is still alive. It is only fear that blocks the way. As he looks inside the chapel of his memories, he recalls his mothers" final words to him, " If you are scared, let fear propel you forward. Do not look back. Do not let failure stifle you." With these words of encouragement now echoing inside his soul, his fear fades for the darkness of fear now succumbs to the light of hope.
He then closes his eyes, and listens to the tranquil sounds of night. Complete harmony. The rocking of his canoe makes him feel as if he was a newly born baby, being cradled in the arms of his mother. Unbeknown to him, he falls asleep. The current, a hidden aquatic danger, reaches its own arms out from the nocturnal zenith. It too cradles the boy, but into the solitary ocean. .
As time passes, the air suddenly snaps, he is awakened by the pulsating winds. The gale of the Antarctic makes him shudder, sending disturbing sensations down his spine; he wonders how the breath of the earth can be so terrifying.
The waters then ripple at the shivering of this aquatic vessel. Nature quivers at this disturbance. A school of fish, now disturbed, takes flight. As the lunar lights illuminate the sky, their glistening coats radiate the waters surface into an allure of colors. One may confuse this aquatic rhapsody with that of the aurora aureoles. Mesmerized by such a display of dexterity, the situations conundrum slips through the boys mind.
