After waking up one morning, Gregor Samsa was no longer in the human state that he"d grown accustomed to over the years. Instead, Gregor had been transformed into a grotesque beetle that frightens anyone who dared to lies upon him. No one can be certain as to why Gregor underwent his metamorphosis, but it was probably in an attempt to reach self-actualization. Disgusted by his appearance, his family soon alienated Gregor from themselves and the rest of the world. Despite his appearance, Gregor's family still loved him and his sister, Grege, felt compelled to care for him, as he did for her. His family would have to learn to either accept him as he is, or get rid of him. .
It is not clear as to why Gregor Samsa had been turned into a repulsive vermin in the first place, but his metamorphosis was probably the result of his quest for self-actualization. Gregor had been very unhappy with his current position in society. He hated his job, and all the complications that came along with it, such as traveling, eating rather disgusting meals, and having to wake up early. Gregor had taken his position as a traveling salesman after his father's business had crumbled and he owed a rather large debt. Gregor opted to become the head of the household, in order to provide the family with a rather luxurious home, put food on the table, and pay off his father's debt slowly. Being the sole provider for the family pleased him, but he felt as though his efforts were not appreciated, as he sacrificed plenty for them, such as pursuing his own ambitions and desires. .
Gregor undergoes a terrible metamorphosis, and his new appearance is enough to bring a shock to anyone's face, even his family. Gregor could no longer communicate with his family in his new form and they soon lost touch. Gregor's appearance disgusted everyone, which caused him to become alientated from society in the first place. If he were to step one of his many little feet outside of his bedroom, he father would strike him, until he crawled back in.
